Thomson Reuters

See how Kaz Software built a powerful trade documentation platform linking HTS codes with intelligent workflows and search automation.

International trade professionals handle thousands of documents tied to complex classification and compliance requirements. Thomson Reuters needed a unified system to organize, track, and retrieve HTS-linked documents—reducing errors, accelerating workflows, and improving compliance across import/export operations.

The Need

Thomson Reuters required a centralized, version-controlled document management system that would seamlessly link trade

documents with their HTS codes and automate multi-step approval workflows.

Organize millions of trade documents by HTS code and shipment data

Track versions and approvals for compliance verification

Enable high-speed document search and metadata filtering

Automate document routing, validation, and audit trail creation

The Solution

We built a centralized HTS-linked document management platform that streamlines how Thomson Reuters’ clients organize, track, and retrieve international trade documents. The system maintains a structured repository with HTS code tagging, shipment metadata, document type classification, version history, and approval status—ensuring audit-ready records and fast retrieval for compliance reviews, shipments, and customs responses. Version control guarantees teams always work from the latest documents while preserving complete change histories.
Automated workflows route submissions to the right reviewers, track approvals, enforce document requirements, and generate notifications and activity logs. A WPF/MEF desktop interface paired with a Lucene.net search engine delivers fast indexing, advanced filtering, and instant document previews. The platform has enabled significant operational gains, including $100,000+ in savings and 50,000+ manual hours eliminated through automated tracking, approvals, and compliance checks.

The Challenge

The challenge lay in managing vast trade documentation while keeping it simple and usable for non-technical users. From version control to search optimization and workflow flexibility, the platform needed to balance power with clarity.
