The Need
The goal was clear: give dairy farmers more control and insight into feed efficiency, reduce waste, cut feed costs by up to 7%, and ultimately deliver more milk at less cost.
The Solution
We created a Raspberry Pi and Node.js based proxy environment to simulate dairy farm IoT devices, allowing the team to scale testing without waiting for real hardware. An early research cycle clarified unknowns such as device to mobile communication without internet, reducing technical risk and informing system boundaries. This approach established a clear technical foundation for the full project.
The platform was built with ASP.NET MVC and various JavaScript frameworks on the server side. Given the need for hardware level access on mobile devices, native Android and iOS apps were developed for field and operational use. This ensured seamless interaction with physical equipment and real world farm environments.
